I have a vision to create pictures that tell stories and are for public places. Recent commissions have included several schools and my church. I am now looking for more projects. I have mostly worked with oil and acrylic on large boards, and on large collages on paper.
Going back to my earliest days, my love of colours, lines and shapes started all that time ago.
Our garden was special and I loved the sun on the flower petals. Their splendour and fragility made them more beautiful. I was also fascinated by the illustrations in children’s books. I’m obsessed with lines. I want my lines to be alive, spitting with life! They should crackle with electricity.
As a student [not an art student], I went to Florence for a holiday and was fascinated by the paintings there.
Much later I went to evening classes in art. I felt it was something I couldn’t put off any longer. I had a most sympathetic teacher, as were all the later teachers I had. I went on to other classes over a period of about 15 years.
When I retired from teaching, I knew if I didn’t paint l’d be wasting my life. I know what I want to do; paint large paintings in public places.
