My name is Farah and I am an Uxbridge based gouache artist. I grew up immersed in creative hobbies, but following my A Levels I left art behind to pursue engineering at university. I sketched here and there but did not find much time for creative work until the 2020 lockdown. With so much free time at hand, I decided to invest in an introductory gouache set and quickly fell in love with the medium. I did a lot of portraiture work with oil paints at school, but using gouache I chose to pursue landscapes with acrylic paints. Having grown up in a busy city, I often use my work as an escape and choose to paint locations far removed from me. I opt for compositions that offer a complete immersion into the natural world, I want to capture the serenity and sanctuary that nature’s embrace provides. Mountains, water, and sunsets are the subject matter I enjoy most; however I have never been one to fixate on one theme for long. I tend to be seasonally inspired and frequently explore different imagery. More recently I am trying my hand at still life paintings and architectural landscapes. Some of my contemporary inspirations are Gareth Jones and Jim Musil, and other more traditional influences include Japanese woodblock prints from the Edo Period and Romantic paintings, in particular John Martin and Caspar David Friedrich. I began my journey online and networked with artists globally, but my current pursuit is to become a part of local communities and exhibit my work in person.
