I have enjoyed painting and drawing from a young age, and was interested in the work of the great artists and how they portrayed the world. Rather put off by uninspiring art lessons at my grammar school, I then did very little until taking a local authority beginners’ class in drawing and watercolour after retirement. What a revelation! I learned more technique in two terms than I had in five years of classes at school, and my enthusiasm was rekindled.
Since then I have attended other classes and workshops, and ventured into other media. I still attend classes, and am still learning and experimenting. I enjoy using all the media I’ve tried – each has its own strengths and weaknesses – so my work is quite varied, though my favourite medium is oils and I also like sketching in pen and ink.
